It was a moment years in the making, but Westover graduate Parley Hannan ‘15 can finally call herself a national track champion.
Competing at the Division III NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C. this weekend, Hannan became a two-time national winner in the span of three days.
On Thursday, May 27, the senior from Ithaca College (NY) won the 10,000-meter event in a time of 34:33.53. She led the race from start to finish. She currently holds the 11th-fastest outdoor time in DIII history (34:12.5), a time she achieved earlier this spring. Thursday's win was her first-ever national victory on the track.

On Saturday, May 29, after waiting through more than an hour weather delay, Hannan claimed the 5K title, pulling away in the final mile and 800 meters to win in 16:22.85. Her personal best this spring in the event is 16:17.94, which ranks sixth-best in DIII outdoor history.
“She really came full circle and feeling good and executing what she's capable of doing,” said Erin Dinan, Ithaca’s Assistant Track Coach and Head Cross Country. “It was amazing to watch.”
Hannan, who is from Orlean, Va., claimed her first title in the fall of 2019 when she won the Division III NCAA National Cross Country Championship.
Aside from her individual success, her team finished fourth at the Outdoor Championships with 38.33 points. This spring Hannan holds the top times in DII in the 10K, 5K and ranks fourth in the 1,500 (4:28.68).
At Westover, Hannan never competed in cross country or track. An all-around athlete, she instead played soccer, lacrosse, squash and swam.
