Sonja Osborn Museum Studies Internship

Westover offers two museum internship programs.

In the Sonja Osborn Museum Studies (SOMSI) Program, students gain practical museum experience working with curators at Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington, CT and then bring that experience back to Westover through a project and symposium presentation. Students may also gain practical museum experience through an internship opportunity at the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, CT. These students travel to the museum several times a week to work with curators and educators on exhibitions and public programs.

The Internship includes:

  • Working alongside professional curators in a museum space

  • Learning skills in museum and archival work that build on strengths and interests.

  • Geting hands-on experience working in a museum for resume and future interests in museum work or art history.

  • Exploring a project and artwork of the intern’s choosing

    (students have curated exhibitions at Westover, written articles for Westover's Alumnae Magazine, made an art installation, and more!)
  • Gaining professional skills in writing, research, and presenting
